Nach den Herunterladen und Installieren des LEGO Digital Designers (Bild anklicken um zur LEGO Factory Webseite zu gelangen) sieht der Arbeitsbildschirm so aus. Der LDD ist kostenlos erhältlich sowie sehr leicht zu bedienen, aber Benutzer von MLCad werden die meisten höheren Funktionen schmerzlich vermissen. Soweit es 'Mechs betrifft, stellen die einfachsten und kleinsten Modelle von meiner Site schon die Spitze dessen dar, was mit dem LDD möglich ist. Für fortgeschrittene MLCad-Benutzer kann Arbeiten mit dem LDD sehr frustrierend sein. Es zeigt sich eben, daß dieses Programm im Hinblick auf leichte Zugänglichkeit und in erster Linie für Kinder entwickelt wurde. Und zum Erstellen von kleineren, relativ simplen Modellen.

After downloading and installing the LEGO Digital Designer (click image to visit the LEGO factory website), this is what the edit screen will look like. LDD is free and very easy to use, but lacks most of the features advanced users of MLCad got used to. As far as 'Mechs are concerned, the most basic designs from my site are the peak of what's possible already. For advanced users, working with the LDD can be very frustrating. It shows that this program was created with easy access and younger users in mind, and for building realtively small and simple models.
Man muss ja nicht unbedingt Modelle basteln. Dieses Set von einzelnen Teilen habe ich zusammen gestellt und bei LEGO shop@home bestellt. Die Teileauswahl für den LDD ist leider immer noch recht begrenzt (als Mechdesigner gesprochen). Es gibt fast keine transparenten Cockpits, und viele Typen Schrägsteine fehlen ganz. Trotzdem sind eine Reihe sehr interessanter Teile erhältlich. Z.B. die kleinen 1x1 Schrägen. Sie kosten 8-9 cent. Welcher Bricklink-Laden bietet die SO günstig an? Und in unbegrenzten Mengen!
You dont have to build models, though. This is a set of pieces I put together and ordered from LEGO shop@home. While the range of parts is terribly limited (speaking as a 'Mech designer), with almost no windscreen elements and many types of sloped/wedged elements missing altogether, there ARE some tasty pieces in the current LEGO factory palette indeed. See the small 1x1 slopes? They cost about 8-9 cent. Show me a Bricklink shop offering them THAT cheap AND in unlimited quantities!
Nach 2-3 Tagen (Deutschland) erhält man dann dies: einen Karton und eine Tüte mit Steinen. Und NUR die Steine, die man bestellt hat, keine teuren Extra-Steine mehr! Wer Lust hat, kann auch ein Bild (Einleger) für den Karton gestalten. Bauanleitungen werden nicht mitgeliefert. Aber für Besucher von BrickCommander stehen natürlich bessere Möglichkeiten zur Wahl als sich mit dem wirren LDD-file zu plagen. And this is what you will get: a box and a bag with bricks. Exactly the pieces you ordered, no more, no less! You could also choose to design a cover image (inlay) for the box. Building instructions are not provided. But as a visitor of BrickCommander you of course have better options availible to you than to use the messy LDD file as building instructions! Read on to learn what your options are.

Obwohl die LEGO-Mechs natürlich meine eigenen Entwürfe sind, sind gewisse Namen in Verbindung mit den originalen Vorlagen doch urheberrechtlich geschützt (für Wizkids). Zwar darf ich solches Material für BrickCommander verwenden, aber es könnten Komplikationen mit der Firma LEGO auftreten. Diese könnte entscheiden, sicherheitshalber meine Entwürfe nicht für die LDD Gallerie zuzulassen, oder sie komplett für Bestellungen zu sperren. Um dies zu vermeiden, wurde mir geraten die Namen der Mechs zu verändern oder sie komplett umzubenennen. Ich stelle meine Designs natürlich kostenlos zur Verfügung, und wenn ihr auf die Bilder unten klickt, könnt ihr die Modelle direkt bestellen!

Of course, the LEGO models are my own designs, but certain 'Mech names are copyrighted in connection with the original designs (by Wizkids). While I am allowed to use copyrighted material on my own website, things could get difficult as far as The LEGO Group is concerned. They could choose (just in case) not to allow my models for upload to the LDD gallery, or bar them from shop@home orders. To play it safe, I've been advised to alter the Mechs' names or choose different names altogether. Naturally I provide my designs for free, and if you click at the images below you could order them right away!

Well, and once you have the sets at home, you call call the Mechs what you want, of course :)
Der Classic BattleTech Raptor war ursprünglich das einzige Modell, das meiner Meinung nach mit dem LDD nachzubauen war. Daher ist es auch mein erster LDD-Mech. Es ist keine exakte Kopie meines älteren Entwurfes. Der Torso ist nach hinten verlängert, was dem Vorbild besser entspricht. Auf jeden Fall ist es ein flinker, kleiner 'Mech! :) The classic BattleTech Raptor was the first, and actually the only model I considered possible LDD-ing until then. It's not an exact copy of my early design. Since then I aquired a miniature which showed me that the torso needed more "depth". Anyway it's very swift (german: flink) 'Mech! :)
Dies ist der Floh aus MW 4, den ich ursprünglich anhand einer sehr frühen Produktionsskizze gebaut habe. Wegen der weissen Teile an diesem Modell habe ich den Mech Elster genannt, und auch weil ich den Namen passend finde. Kleine Änderung in der LDD-Datei: die beiden schwarzen Grill-Kacheln an den Füssen sind überflüssig und müssen entfernt werden. This is the Flea from MW4. I originally created the model from a very early piece of artwork. I called this model Elster (german for magpie) because of the white pieces, and because I feel the name fits. Small error in the LDD-file: the two black grill tiles on the feet have to be removed.
Genau, dies ist der Strider aus MW 3. Für den Kopf/Torso musste ich eine Menge weisser Teile verbauen, deshalb habe ich den Mech Termite getauft. Einige Termitenarten habe weisse Köpfe, oder? Egal. In Deutschland gibt es zum Glück keine Termiten :) Yes, this is the Strider from MW 3. I had to use a lot of white pieces on the head, so I named it "Termite". I think some kinds of termites do have white heads. Or do they? We don't have termites in Germany :)

Hier haben wir den Holländer II aus den inoffiziellen Mektek-Erweiterung für MW 4. Unser Nachbarland Holland wird auch als die "Niederlande" (Netherlands) bezeichnet, daher der Name des Mechs .... :)

This is the Hollander II from the fan-created Mektek expansion for MW 4 Mercs. Our neighbourhood country Holland is also known as "the Netherlands". Hence the name ... :)

Es ist an der Zeit, mal andere Farben zu verwenden. Ein blauer Spatz! Richtig, dies ist eigentlich der Owens OmniMech. Er hat mehr Grundelemente als die meisten anderen Mechs, darum war er auch von Anfang an auf meiner Liste möglicherweise LDD-tauglicher Designs. Nach anfänglichen Problemen (ein LEGO-Teil war offenbar in der LEGO Factory kurzfristig nicht verfügbar) kann dieses Modell nun zum Preis von EUR 46,79 bestellt werden. Let's try a different color scheme this time, shall we? :) Right, this is the Owens OmniMech. It has more basic elements than most other models, so it was on my list of designs maybe possible creating with the LDD from the beginning. After initial trouble (apparently some LEGO piece was temporarily out of stock) the model now can be added to the shop@home cart and costs EUR 46.79.
Viel grösser und komplexer wird's nicht mehr mit dem LDD. Ich hoffe, man kann den Centurion aus MW Dark Age wiedererkennen. Obwohl ich zuerst die Möglichkeit, mit dem LDD MW Age of Destruction-Modelle nachzubauen ausgeschlossen habe, hatte ich doch zumindest den Centurion immer im Hinterkopf. Dieser kleine Römer (Roman) besitzt eine Menge Gelenke und ist sehr beweglich. This is as big and complex as Mechs get with the LDD. I hope the MW Dark Age Centurion is recognizable. Though at first I ruled out the possibility of creating any MW Age of Destruction models with the LDD because of their complexity and richness in detail, the Centurion was always on my mind. This little roman soldier has a lot of joints and is pretty poseable.

Bauanleitungen: man kann es mit der LDD-Datei probieren (von der LEGO Factory Webseite herunterladen), oder besser mit den MLCad-Dateien die ich erstellt habe (ZIP mit 4 Modellen als Multipart-files, noch ohne Sparrow und Roman), oder man besucht die BrickCommander Brickshelf-Gallerie (Tonnen von Bildern).

Bitte beachten: es ist nicht erlaubt meine Entwürfe in die LDD-Gallerie hochzuladen. Dies würde eine Verletzung meiner eigenen Urheberrechte bedeuten, und euer Schwanz wird verfaulen und abfallen wenn ihr es dennoch tut! :P

Stärkere Hüftgelenke: zwei meiner 'Mechs, der Flink und besonders der Netherlord, würden sehr von verstärkten Hüftgelenken profitieren. Leider gibt es die "3er Techic-Achse mit Pin" nicht für den LDD. In Zusammenarbeit mit zwei 1x2 Techniksteinen lässt sich so ein wesentlich stärkeres Hüftgelenk erstellen als mit normalen schwarzen Technik-Pinnen. Ich rate, mit Steinen aus dem eigenen Vorrat die Modelle folgendermaßen aufzurüsten: Add stronger hip joints: Two of my designs, the Flink and especially the Netherlord, would benefit from stronger hip joints. Unfortunately, the "technic Axle 3 with stud", which creates a lot of friction working in concert with two 1x2 technic bricks is currently not availible for the LDD.
